Jamaica is an island nation of the Greater Antilles in the Caribbean Sea, 145 km south of Cuba and 190 km west of the island of Hispaniola. Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean at 10,992 sq km with a population of around 2.8 million.
Jamaicas inland comprises the Blue Mountains, which are surrounded by a narrow coastal plain, and most of the cities are located on the coast. Jamaicas climate is tropical with hot and humid weather, with a more temperate climate in the higher regions inland. Jamaica lies in the hurricane belt of the Atlantic Ocean.
